We will NOT pay to use Facebook!
So on more then one occasion I’ve been invited to a group called: We Will Not Pay To Use Facebook. We Are Gone If This Happens ►► INVITE ALL!.
Strange, because very recently Facebook declined an offer to be sold to Microsoft, it’s only real potentially viable bidder. It was a good price at the time, too. But their CEO insists the social networking site will never go up for sale.
Of course I would be more akin to say “never say never”, but right now there’s no risk of it happening. The economy is too upset, especially in America, and Facebook is too expensive. Only a handful of companies would be willing and able to buy it, and really – no one wants to buy a social network; not after News Corp. bought Myspace in its peak and since then let it rot, die and generate massive losses.
The text of the protest goes as follows:
Apparently if Facebook gets sold then theres a major possibility that it will turn into a “Paysite”. This is just stupid!
Lets all stick together on this one and let them know that we will leave Facebook if they decide to charge us to use it.Please join and use the “INVITE PEOPLE TO JOIN” tab on the right hand side and invite all your friends to join.
WE WILL NOT PAY TO USE FACEBOOK!!!
All you have to do to help STOP this is:
► 1 Join this group.
► 2 Click on “Invite People to Join” button in the right menu.
► 3 Select all of your friends.
► 4 Click on the “Send invitation” button

Why anyone thinks they’d turn Facebook into a paysite is madness. If Facebook sold up, it would be unlikely to become a paysite because it’s revenue is generated by ads. Charge people to use your site and you’ll get less people – and thus loose ad revenue fairly quick. Google’s plan is working by giving everything for free and slapping ads all over it – this is what works online.
On top of that, Facebook has millions of users. More then most countries have in populous. Why you think a small protest would stop massive business deals would work is another thing that gets me.
Final point would be that if Facebook sold and became a paysite it would take about 10 minutes for a clone that does everything plus more to sprout.

that would be their worst idea ever, if they want money they should sell it I am sure there are many buyers.
They would lose so many people it would be the death of them over night.
there are so many other free sites out there people would find something new.
and especially with google wave coming out, they would essentially kill there business overnight.

Yep. They’d die. Either everyone would migrate to myspace or bebo (*shudder*) or, as I would suspect is more likely, something new would appear at random that does everything Facebook did, but better and with more features.

lol the admin for that group is “Jeremiah Parker” of “Cat Eye productions” that among sever things is an advertising company. hm.. wonder if they just want your email address so they can sell it or send spam to it?
why would facebook go to a pay site? they have advertising, that bar down the right side of the screen saying “sponsored”. on my home page i have 1 ad, and on any of my games i play there are like 3ish. they get like $10,500 if everyone just open’s their homepage 1 time.
they claim to have 350 million users.
according to them
