White Snake – Slide It In

Before writing this blog post I had to consider something. Something no political, technology or music blogger probably ever had to consider before – is white snake spelled as two words, or one whole word?

This post is about their instant classic, “Slide it in”. I could comment on how every last one of White Snakes (I guess I’m sticking to my two-word guns) were the same song, written in slightly different order each time. Lyrics, melody, the whole lot. This was a one-hit band – yet Steve Vai manages to get out and become a solo guitar-wank “God”.

Anyway, in this song, White Snake discuss the impact of having “relations” with a lady. But in a typically 80′s crass, ridiculous way. At the time, you know they thought they were being poignant, clever, witty and incredible. Then the 80′s went away, and people got some perspective on how awful some music is/was.

All I really want to do with this post is point out the following lyric:

SLIDE IT IN,
RIGHT TO THE TOP.

I’M GONNA SLIDE IT IN,
SLIDE IT IN,
(pause)
…OH BABY.

Why did he pause there? Is this a deliberate pause to indicate that he, as a man, having “slid it in right to the top” has indeed, given himself some happy-time? Or is it just shit song writing?

Either way, I do feel this post will stir up the debate of the century. That, or I’m incredibly bored and decided to bore you too.

Either that, or it’s a snapped guitar string… (uses … to encourage “getting” of the euphemism)
